Paracentesis is the term used for the surgical puncture of a body cavity. According to Dorland's Medical Dictionary, paracentesis bulbi and paracentesis oculi are terms used for the surgical puncture of the eyeball. In over three decades of pediatric practice, I don't recall these terms being used.

Paracentesis is employed to aspirate fluid from, or inject medication into the anterior or posterior chamber of the eye.

Aqueous humor is the fluid in the anterior chamber, vitreous is the jelly-like fluid in the posterior chamber.

Intraocular injections can serve a variety of purposes, such as medications for macular degeneration. Injections are done by inserting the needle into the vitreous humor, the jelly-like material within the eye's inner chamber.
