Jess asked:
What I’m looking for is:
With a medical license, does that give a doctor free reign over any field and any practice? Does a person NEED to have a license in order to perform a surgery, etc…?
Sources would be amazing
This is for trail evidence in school and websites are being very vague.
In theory, a medical license gives someone legal permission to do just about anything he/she wants, medically. Kinda stupid, but true.
In reality, this is, of course, is not the case. There are restraints, such as the terms of malpractice insurance, threats of a lawsuit, peer pressure, hospital privilege limitations, personal integrity and commons sense.
Occasionally the restraints fail, and patients suffer the consequences. Usually, the only damage to the doctor is higher malpractice costs.
