medical insurance
Serious asked:

E.R. right now with health complications and we are running lots of medical bills. Do you know if it is possible, since it has been under a year without insurance, if we can file for Cobra coverage and pay all of the past months of insurance dues to cover these expenses?

I thank god for medicare. I live in Australia and hospitals are free and there isn’t much of a waiting list for operations or even in the ER, so we are super lucky and most of us don’t need private insurance. Back to you I hope you can pay it off. Sorry I don’t know what cobra coverage is.

It depends on the state your in call C.H.I.P.S or ask the hospital what to do there are non profit organizations like VFW that will give $$ or fund raisers, check your local chamber of commerace the will have a list of orgsnations

My experience with Cobra is from two years ago, so things might have changed. Cobra at that time was available retroactively for 3 months from the last time of coverage. It was almost 2 1/2 times what we were paying for insurance previously. I hope that you will be able to find someone to help, like a social worker at the hospital. Many states have cheap/free insurance available for children.

Sorry, but the option for COBRA runs out after 60 days.

You usually have only a couple months to accept or decline cobra – it won’t go for 8 months.

BUT, you should check with your state children’s health insurance plan – medicaid. If your child qualifies, some states will pay bills retroactive a month or two.

You will not be able to “go back” and get COBRA. If you don’t qualify for any government programs you can my talk to the hospital and ask about a more responsible price or you can use a medical claim review and settlement organization. If you visit MyMedicalcontrol.com they will try and negotiate a lower price for you. If they succeed you will pay them 30% of what they saved you, if they are not able to get you a better price you are not charged anything.
