I prepaid for medical insurance and lost my job. Doesn’t the insurance company owe me a refund?

medical insurance

I lost my job in August. I carried medical insurance which was prepaid in August for September. I know this because I was responsible for enrollments. Doesn’t the insurance company owe me a refund since I did not use the insurance in September. In our company when you are terminated you insurance expires on the last day of the month you were terminated. I received my last check on 8/8/08 and medical benefit payments were extracted. Don’t they owe me a refund?

No, because you didn’t PAY the insurance company. You paid your employer, your EMPLOYER paid the insurance company.

Your gripe is with your employer, NOT your insurance company.

Additionally, as you only received ONE check in August, if it covered time worked in JULY, you were actually paying for your AUGUST premiums in that check. And it’s highly possible that your plan with your employer, covered you through the end of AUGUST, which would mean, no refund is due.

I agree. They will just give you benefits until the end of the month that you were paid. You didn’t ask to cancel the policy, so you will be covered up through the time you were paid.

They usually keep you covered until the end of your paid-up Premium. It doesn’t matter whether you used it or not, cause it was there for you to use, if needed. Make a phone call to them & ask.
