many hospitals have a “rating system” you go in and verify your income and they will charge you on a sliding scale according to your income. There are also free clinics, you may have to wait awhile but its free.
my sister had the same problem. there is a program called “CHIP” though that she got her son insurance through… i don’t really know how it works, i just know that even though they made too much for medicaid, the CHIP program accepted them… you could look into it for you children.
it is NOT fair that people working jobs can’t afford health insurance but people not even trying can have a baby and never see a hospital or doctors bill, then that child can be on medicaid with them. it’s a nasty cycle.
