How can I start working as a medical biller?

medical
lilflower asked:

I have license to work as a medical biller specialist. But all the jobs I’ve applied for ask me for 2 years of experience. How can I work as a medical biller if I don’t have experience. Should I change my career?

try volunteering your time to get some experience. then you can list it on your resume when you apply for jobs.

I wouldn’t change rather find a way to get some experience. If you know any doctors or other health related offices, ask to sign on as an apprentice. There is a good article on this site you can read up on.

Most of the medical coders I talked to had to work in a medical office before they were hired as a medical coder. It’s not fair, but that seems to be the path many have had to go to transfer over or get a coding job, since many doctor’s offices don’t want to take a chance with someone who isn’t already familiar with the workings of a medical office environment. Even the AHIMA medical coding certification organization strongly suggests that you have at least 6 months-2 years of coding experience before they think you should try to take their exams.

    Good luck!
