How can I get on depressions medication with no medical insurance?

medical insurance
Sokoh’s toy asked:

I have no medical insurance and no primary care Dr. (my husband was in the military and our dr was at Walter Reed)

I am very depressed and think taking something would help. Who do I call or how doI 1. find a dr with no insurance that won’t charge me 12 million dollars and 2. tell them i’m depressed? Can I do that with a family dr or does it need to be head dr?

Thanks!

In the city I live in there is a hosital that you can go to and you just pay any where from $5.00 to $25.00 per doctor visit. They base it on your income. There is a pharmacy at this hospital too that is discounted. There are long lines and sometimes you have to wait for hours to get into the walk-in clinic, but it is better than nothing. I used to go there, before I had insurance. I am sure there must be something like this in your town. You could probably find out this information by calling any hospital there.

You can definitely find psychiatrists who take “private pay” patients. In the philadelphia area, they usually will charge between $50 and $100 for a visit.

    For lower cost medication:
->see if you qualify for any pharmaceutical company assistance programs (www.pparx.org)
-> look at websites for Target, Walmart, & other pharmacy chains that offer low-priced generics if the Dr. ends up prescribing you a generic medication like Celexa (generic is citalopram and it is $4/month at Target, this is just one example)

Buy your medication elsewhere. drugbuyers.com has done all the research on legit pharmacies, where you don’t need a prescription, and they are way cheaper.
As long as you have a prescription, you are legally allowed to import 3 months of medication for yourself. So its legal. Of course the no prescription pharmacies don’t care about our law, so they sometimes send more than you ordered.

Don’t believe all the horror stories on the news about buying medication from other countries. Our super quality enforcing FDA has had more slip ups than these overseas pharmacies. i’ve been getting all my prescriptions from India and Mexico for over 5 years, and have never had a problem, except it is really slow from India, sometimes a couple months. But Mexico is always within a week.

you can conntact drug companies – some have programs for free drugs.

however sounds like drugs will only cover the problem. you may benefit more from a support group.

i don’t know why you are depressed – i am a big supporter of support groups – Church’s – mixing and mingling with people who want to deal with issues actively.

    good luck.
