I recently changed jobs and it is a smaller company. I am paying more and more medical expenses out of pocket and I need to know how I can claim them as deductions.

I had an accident with a table saw resulting in the amputation of several fingers. I did not have health insurance at the time. I sued the owner of the table saw and received a settlement through their homeowner’s insurance. Are the medical expenses deductible?

The Alternative Minimum Tax may affect many people because of deductions they claimed for medical expenses (in addition to other things). I’m wondering what “medical expenses” means. Is there a even a single definition or does the criteria differ from household to household?
